Josephine Avenue is one of the many hidden treasures of Brixton. This historic tree lined avenue was restored to its Victorian splendour in the 1970's when the railings were replaced after the originals were removed for the 'war effort'.

As well as its Victorian past, the ancient oak tree outside number 40 is also reputed to be where Sir Walter Raleigh courted Elizabeth I while punting on the River Effra.
