Art Returns to Josephine Avenue

Urban Art will return to Brixton on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July, bringing one of South London’s most popular open-air art events back to Josephine Avenue for another weekend celebrating creativity, community and artistic talent.

For more than two decades, Urban Art has transformed the railings of Josephine Avenue into a unique outdoor gallery, attracting thousands of visitors from across London and beyond. Unlike a traditional art fair, Urban Art offers the opportunity to enjoy artwork in the open air, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where everyone can explore, discover and engage with artists directly. Entry is free, making it one of the most accessible cultural events in the capital.

This year’s event will feature more than 120 exhibiting artists, showcasing a remarkable variety of work including painting, photography, printmaking, illustration, mixed media and contemporary visual art. The diversity of styles and approaches on display is one of the reasons visitors return year after year. Whether your interests lie in vibrant abstract paintings, detailed landscapes, striking portraits or innovative photographic work, there will be something to capture your imagination.

One of the defining characteristics of Urban Art is the opportunity to meet the artists themselves. Every exhibitor is present throughout the weekend, allowing visitors to learn more about the inspiration, techniques and stories behind the work. These conversations often become one of the most memorable parts of the event, providing an insight into the creative process that cannot be found in a gallery or online shop.

Urban Art is also about much more than buying and selling artwork. Over the years it has become a valued community event, bringing together artists, residents, local organisations and visitors in a celebration of creativity and culture. Many exhibitors have built long-term relationships with collectors who first discovered their work at Urban Art, while countless visitors have made their first original art purchase at the event.

As preparations continue, artists across London and beyond are busy creating new work specifically for the exhibition. Many will be unveiling pieces that have never been shown publicly before, giving visitors the chance to discover fresh work and emerging talent alongside established exhibitors.

Over the coming weeks we will be introducing some of the artists taking part in Urban Art 2026, sharing behind-the-scenes insights into their creative practice and highlighting some of the exciting work that visitors can look forward to seeing in July. Until then, make a note of the dates and join us on Josephine Avenue for a weekend dedicated to art, creativity and community.
